Jurgen Prochnow (Air Force One) is outstanding as the veteran U-boat captain leading a young, inexperienced crew into action in the North Atlantic with a war correspondent (Herbert Gronemeyer) along to document their heroics. Though at first very successful, U-boats were later sunk in great numbers by increasingly sophisticated Allied destroyers.
